TOO MUCH SLEEP
Dir. David Maquiling

Jack Crawford, a sleepy, uninspired 24-year-old security guard, has his gun stolen while riding the bus home from work one day. In order to get it back, he enlists the help of Eddie, a local wise guy with a limitless range of strange philosophies and unbelievable anecdotes. As they set out on their search, they quickly discover a series of bizarre characters in the peculiar underworld seething below the shiny surface of suburban New Jersey.
A modern adaptation of a classic Filipino folk story, Too Much Sleep screened at more than 25 international film festivals and was distributed theatrically by The Shooting Gallery (Sling Blade, You Can Count on Me, Belly). In The New York Times Dave Kehr wrote, "Too Much Sleep is a sharp comedy on the order of Scorsese's "After Hours"...marks Maquiling a young filmmaker to watch." Kevin Thomas of the Los Angeles Times described Too Much Sleep as "a shaggy-dog story full of hilarious and outrageous twists." Steven Rosen of the Denver Post described it as "a wickedly smart indie film that will remind you of Hal Hartley, Wes Anderson, and Jim Jarmusch." And Roger Ebert gave Too Much Sleep Three Stars, insisting that we must "cherish it as a treasure." - 86 Min. USA

Perry Roberts is about to graduate from a prestigious private college. The son of a corrupt Congressman, Perry has lost faith in all the things he held true - his family, girlfriend, and the American Dream. He finds himself emotionally bereft and depressed.

In search of self-discovery, Perry meets Giovanni, an art student with an unrealized gift, Giovanni is Perry's polar opposite. Raised by abusive parents and placed into a series of foster homes, Giovanni is brooding and nihilistic. He lives in an altered state full of drugs and sex, capped by a deadly game with a gun and a single bullet!

Perry sees Gio as a free spirit, incorruptible and impervious to the pressures of society. Gio believes Perry to be a spoiled rich boy dabbling in existential angst. Perry needs Gio to believe that his pain is real, while Giovanni implores Perry to play his game of Russian roulette to prove the validity of his suffering.

As Perry and Gio's relationship evolves, and drug-fueled emotions churn, their fates linger at the tip of a revolver with a single bullet.

Perry sets out on a quest to save Gio. The only question is, is he in time or too late? - 89 Min. USA
