Hilda Somarriba graduated from Williams College with a degree in Political Science and Sociology and started her career in the Entertainment business as an assistant at MTV Networks, transitioning as an executive assistant in the International Business Development division of Nickelodeon International. She coordinated events in Argentina and Mexico, assisting the development of the market for the fledging Nickelodeon Latin America channel. HBO Latin American Group signed Somarriba on as Ad Sales & Promotions coordinator, overseeing the marketing needs of their four regional offices in Latin America for E! Entertainment, A & E, WBTV and Sony networks.
In 2000, Telemundo hired Somarriba as a Business Development & Ad Sales Executive for the Telemundo International Network and the Latino-focused mun2. PMK/HBH, the premier Hollywood talent PR agency, hired Somarriba in 2005, taking her career into publicity, working with Will Smith, Sally Field, Candice Bergen, Bonnie Hunt, Maria Bello, Jamie Lee Curtis as well as handling the Latin media for Julio Iglesias, Il Divo and Freddy Rodriguez plus other A+ list celebrities as needed. Additionally, Somarriba worked on film PR campaigns at Sundance, LAIFF as well as the theatrical distribution for titles for clients such as Focus Features and Legendary Pictures. Working with the Event team at PMK/HBH, she handled some of Hollywood’s most exclusive red-carpet events such as the Vanity Fair After-Oscar party, SAG Awards, WIF Crystal awards, American Music Awards, Clive Davis Pre-Grammy and Sony-BMG post-Grammy bash among many others.
In late 2007, she joined Lightning Entertainment coordinating the International market campaigns for THE HUMAN CONTRACT, HEY HEY IT’S ESTHER BLUEBURGER, BONNEVILLE, ANAMORPH and LA LINEA at the AFM, the Berlinale and Cannes Film Festivals. Additionally Somarriba handled Lightning Entertainment’s annual Distributor parties at AFM and Cannes, 07-08.
Somarriba created her own company: Prism Media Group in the spring of 2008 to work on Marketing and PR for both General and Latin market media. To date, she spearheaded the PR campaigns for over 45 films at major film festivals: Sundance, Slamdance, Berlin, SXSW, Cannes, LA Film Fest & Toronto International Film Festival. Presently, she is the head PR for Emmett / Furla Films and also supervises the unit publicity on their titles (THE PRINCE, VICE, FREELANCERS, END OF WATCH, BROKEN CITY, 2 GUNS, LONE SURVIVOR). From 2008-2012, she handled the publicity for Horror Director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell, creators of the worldwide hit SAW and INSIDIOUS. Other clients include Esperanza Productions, Spoke Lane Entertainment, Dare Filmz, Stacey Testro International. Additionally, she is contracted by major Hollywood PR agencies – Slate PR, Fifteen Minutes & ID PR, to handle the overflow of talent & special red carpets during Award seasons.
Additionally, Somarriba handles Latino media within the US market. She is contracted by PR agencies to handle clients in Latino media such as Telemundo’s telenovelas & specials (Miss Universe pageant 2010, the 2008-2012 Latin & Mexican Billboard Awards 2008-2014).
In addition to the Entertainment publicity field, Somarriba donates her time to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospitals – running the red carpet for their galas. She also handles the red carpet for the annual Human Rights Campaign Annual Gala Fundraiser & The Cancer Community Center in Los Angeles.
