Join NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) for a virtual conversation with Johnnie Ingram, award-winning co-creator and executive producer of the Emmy-winning series “We’re Here” on HBO. We will discuss his process developing and selling a series to a major streamer, as well as his experience as an executive producer. We will also discuss his career and experience across the industry, particularly in LGBTQ+ media.

About Johnnie Ingram:

Johnnie Ingram is a Peabody, Television Academy, two-time Critics Choice, three-time GLAAD award-winning co-creator and executive producer of the four-time Emmy winning series “We’re Here” on HBO. In addition, he co-created and executive produced the Critics Choice and GLAAD nominated doc series “Swiping America”. Johnnie an artist, advocate, writer, producer, director and creative director has led many award-winning advertising campaigns and is most known for the New York Times, TIME, USA TODAY acclaimed Cheerios Super Bowl commercial featuring an interracial family in 2013. His award winning gay blood donation campaign for GLAAD that was commissioned by Saatchi & Saatchi is part of the permanent collection at MOMA in New York City.

About the moderator:

K.J. Matthews is an accomplished Emmy and Peabody Award-winning journalist.

For more than a decade, she successfully helped shape CNN’s media and entertainment strategy. She was the driving force behind some of the most watched stories and primetime specials on CNN, CNN International, and HLN. She was also the force behind the network’s coverage of major entertainment events including the Academy Awards, the Grammys, The Golden Globes and the Cannes Film Festival. Her work appeared on AC360, The Situation Room, and Erin Burnett’s Out Front. She was also part of a CNN team that won a Peabody for the network’s news coverage.

Before her impactful work at CNN, she was seen regularly on ABC, CBS and FOX-TV affiliates across the country. As a seasoned producer for the Emmy Award-winning primetime series EXTRA TV, she was instrumental in delivering groundbreaking content that helped define the show’s success.

Her distinguished entertainment news coverage is broadcast across leading international platforms, including BBC TV and radio, Germany’s DW English, and Sky UK TV, which is a testament to her global influence and journalistic excellence

In addition to her journalistic work for numerous international media outlets, she’s also part of the distinguished Golden Globe Awards, voting for the nominees and winners of the annual awards show. And she’s led events for the Golden Globes at the Cannes and the Venice Film Festivals over the years, and sits on juries for film festivals.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and a Master of Arts degree from New York University.
