Claire Demorest
Producer/Writer
About Claire:
Claire Demorest grew up in Hillsborough, NC, a small town outside of Chapel Hill that the Wall Street Journal declared “America’s Little Literary Town.” The daughter of daytime soap opera writers, Claire was raised in a community of novelists and artists who helped shape her love of nuanced Southern characters — and her die-hard loyalty to UNC basketball. She began her career in LA as an assistant, working for writer Craig Turk under his overall deal at CBS. Most recently, she was a producer on Dick Wolf’s CBS procedural FBI, writing fifteen episodes over the course of her five-season tenure.
About the moderator:
Elaine’s Chinese dad was raised Buddhist. Her Portuguese mom was raised Catholic. They met at Brandeis, a predominantly Jewish school, and had two bi-racial kids with no religion. Most recently, Elaine was an EXECUTIVE STORY EDITOR on the CW show Dynasty, which also was a top three show worldwide on Netflix. As such, she worked on 44 episodes of the show, writing and producing four of them herself, with Josh Reims as showrunner. Before that, she worked on another Fake Empire Productions show, Gossip Girl for HBO MAX, writing the first season’s “Thanksgiving” episode, with Joshua Safran as showrunner. She is grateful to have been a fellow in the HBO Writers Program, and the recipient of several writing/directing honors, including the prestigious PAGE Award and a TELLY Award. Elaine has also worked as a tutor, primarily doing SAT and GMAT/LSAT prep, and has helped over 800 students get into their dream colleges and business/law schools (she stopped counting!).
Fun fact: Elaine can solve a Rubik’s cube in less than two minutes and is working on doing it one-handed.
