The Joy Music House Team will share insights into their creative process, the art of collaboration between directors, composers, and musicians, and strategies for emerging filmmakers on how to approach both the process and the budget for songs and score in their own projects.
About Catherine Joy:
Catherine Joy is a Tasmanian composer working in Hollywood. She’s received multiple awards including Best Doc Score for Gold Balls and the SCL David Raksin Emerging Talent award for Home Is A Hotel. She scored numerous films for Reel One Entertainment and Lifetime, and composed additional music for projects from Disney, Netflix, HBO, Hulu, Sony, Discovery and History channel. Catherine is CEO of Joy Music House, past President of the AWFC, on the board of directors for the SCL and Adjunct Faculty for the NYU Screen Scoring Masters program.
About Robinton Hobbs:
Robinton Hobbs is a Los Angeles–based composer and musical artist whose work blends punk grit, orchestral color, and cinematic storytelling. His recent album, February Mountain, highlights his evocative, genre-bending style, while his media credits span unconventional formats such as original scores for podcasts and books alongside film and television projects. As Co-Founder and COO of Joy Music House, he has been integral to producing dozens of scores and championing live recording across the industry. Known for his collaborative spirit and keen aesthetic sense, Robinton creates music that brings depth and vision to stories across every medium.
About Joseph Carrillo:
Joseph Carrillo is a composer and artist living and working in Los Angeles. His music style runs the gamut from ethereal and uplifting to mysterious and unsettling. Recent features include Final Girl: Halloween, and Horror in the High Desert, and the short, At the Mercy of Faith, which recently won several awards at the New York Movie Awards, including Best Score. His recent chamber work, The Dreaming Forest, was on display as part of Days of Reverie, an immersive art exhibit at the Sturt Haaga Gallery at Descanso Gardens. He is a co-founder of Joy Music House, which specializes in boutique music preparation, whose recent projects include The Kings of Tupelo (Brocker Way, composer), Presumed Innocent (Danny Bensi and Saunder Juurians, composers), and the Oscar-nominated Minari (Emile Mosseri, composer). About Ayda Akbal:
Ayda Akbal is a Turkish-Australian composer and artist based in Los Angeles. She scored, The Official Marvel Podcast, becoming the first Australian composer to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ayda is proud of her artist album, Where Do I Belong? Here., which reflects on her experiences growing up as a second-generation immigrant. Her work has received national and international recognition, including Australian Government support to expand her composition practice overseas. As Junior Executive at Joy Music House, Ayda is a vital member of the team behind scores for Netflix, Warner Bros., Sony, Amazon MGM, and more.
