NFMLA Virtual Panel | The Director-Producer Dynamic: Building Vision, Navigating Power, and Delivering the Film

Join acclaimed producers Efuru Flowers, Amanda Naseem, Laura Luckenbaugh, and Rachel Stander, moderated by producer-director Aline Andrade, for a candid conversation on navigating creative alignment, power dynamics, and execution across film and television. Presented in partnership with Women Independent Producers as part of their Thank A Producer Initiative.

From indie features and international co-productions to franchise television and global distribution, these industry leaders bring experience working across platforms including AMC Networks, Paramount+, MTV, Hulu, Netflix, and major international partners. They will discuss how directors and producers establish trust, negotiate creative differences, protect the vision while managing budget realities, and guide projects from development through release.

About Efuru Flowers:

Efuru Flowers is the founder of Flourishing Films, a Los Angeles–based international sales, distribution, and production company focused on impactful storytelling. She began her career at New Deal Productions under director John Singleton and has since built a global track record releasing and producing features, documentaries, and series that have screened at Sundance, Berlin, Tribeca, Cannes, Toronto, ABFF, and BlackStar.

Flowers has produced and executive produced projects including Three Ways (Hulu), Sundance selection Night Shift, and the theatrical feature Summer of Violence (2024). A champion of international co-productions, she is currently packaging and producing projects spanning Spain, Brazil, Singapore, Canada, France, Haiti, and the U.S., with multiple features slated for production in 2026. She is an alumna of the Producers Guild of America’s Power of Diversity program, Sundance Institute’s Financing Intensive, and Berlinale Talents.

About Amanda Naseem:

Amanda Naseem is a film producer, programmer and community organizer. Most recently she produced THE SEAT (Netflix), WE ARE AYENDA (Prime Video) and FULL BLEED (Roku). Previously she was a Supervising Producer at VICE Media where she filmed documentaries all around the world as well as the Director of Exhibitor Relations at Adopt Films, where she distributed international arthouse films. Amanda currently serves as Head Shorts Programmer for the Woodstock Film Festival, championing emerging filmmakers and advancing curatorial justice.

About Laura Lauckenbaugh:

Laura Luckenbaugh is a New York–based television, film, and theater producer and development executive. She co-produced the second season of AMC’s Interview with the Vampire and served as Development Consultant to Gran Via across the Anne Rice Immortal Universe franchise. She also produced Everybody’s Fight for Paramount+ and the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, and currently heads development for Hypokrit Productions across film, television, and digital media.

Previously, as Director of International Programming at AMC Networks, Laura oversaw development and international co-productions for AMC, Sundance Now, BBC America, and AMC+, including Interview with the Vampire, Gangs of London, Mary & George, BAFTA-winning Mood, This Is Going to Hurt, and the final season of Better Call Saul. She began her career at Triptyk Studios developing projects across film, television, and musical theater, and now also serves as Industry Producer for the Australian International Screen Forum, connecting emerging Australian creatives with the U.S. market.

About Rachel Stander:

Rachel Stander is a Los Angeles–based independent producer working in narrative film. Her debut feature, Scrap, premiered at the Deauville American Film Festival and co-starred Anthony Rapp and Lana Parrilla. Her follow-up, the Victorian gothic thriller Séance, premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival. She has also produced several short films, including work shot on 16mm.

Stander is the Los Angeles Co-Chair and Programs Coordinator for Women Independent Producers and was selected as a 2025 Stowe Producers’ Lab Fellow. Through her company, A Season of Rain, she shepherds projects from development through delivery; both Scrap and Séance received the Reframe Stamp for gender-balanced hiring.

About Aline Andrade:

Aline Andrade is a Brazilian-American producer and director based in Los Angeles and the founder of Fine Frenzy Films. A graduate of the University of Utah’s Film and Media Arts program, she has produced scripted and unscripted projects for major platforms and networks including National Geographic, Netflix, PBS, Spotify, Hulu, Facebook Watch, ABC, CNN, and FIFA+. She is an alum of NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA), where her short documentary Aureo & Mirele was showcased. Both Aureo & Mirele and her directorial debut, Macumba: A Family Folklore, are currently available on Prime Video in Brazil. She also produced the sci-fi feature Unexpected Treasures, now available on Apple TV, Amazon Prime and Tubi. Her work centers on the immigrant experience and universal stories of resilience and the identity of outsiders.
